Power Is Overrated?

A volley with good direction and angle that is heading away from the opponent. (Variety)

At the professional level, power is definitely a must, so many athletes have to master the techniques to maximize their power that is generated from their whole body. Without power, it is hard to control the points and hit winners and cause your opponents to make mistakes.
However, at the amateur level, do you need all the extra power? It sometimes gives you an advantages but many times the power cannot be controlled and used effectively. Instead, using strategies like serving wide to cause your opponent to impact the ball outside of the court, then hitting your first shot to the opposite side is mostly control/angle/feel and all you need is a good pace/speed to make this plan effective.
Hitting to the corners of the court and using a variety of shots is also a good strategy rather than slamming the ball back right to your partner.

So is power overrated at the amateur level? What is one reason to back up your opinion?
